Incorrect or outdated report information

Learn how to check unfamiliar information and request clarification or correction.

Check the reporting date and source before treating an entry as an error. If it still does not match your records, request a specific explanation or correction from the organisation responsible.

An old entry is not always a wrong entry

A report may reflect a period before your recent payment. A settled balance may need an update, while an accurate historical late payment may still remain as history. These are different from an account you never opened or an amount that does not match the provider’s statement.

Start with the exact field, account label, date and status. “My report is wrong” is harder to investigate than “This account balance does not match the attached statement for the same date.”

Contact the right organisation

  • For CCRIS account or application data, BNM’s FAQs direct you to the reporting financial institution. Use its official complaints or customer-service channel.
  • For identity details in eCCRIS, follow BNM’s current personal-data verification guidance. For an agency’s other information, use that agency’s official dispute process; the originating organisation may also need to confirm the record.
  • An unfamiliar account or suspected identity misuse needs prompt contact with the institution. Do not ignore it merely because you believe it is not yours.

Fictional example

Fictional example: a report based on August information shows an outstanding amount. You settled it in September and have a settlement confirmation. That is evidence to ask when the account will be updated, not proof that the August information was false.

By contrast, an account you do not recognise needs verification of who reported it and the underlying information. Do not pay a stranger who claims a fee will make the record disappear.

What to do next

Keep the relevant report page, statement, receipt or settlement letter, plus a short chronology. Give required identity evidence only through the organisation’s verified secure process—not through Edu.

Ask for a reference number, written response and the next follow-up step. Recheck the relevant entry after an update is confirmed; do not assume submitting a request means a correction is completed.

If unresolved, use the institution’s formal complaint route and appropriate official escalation. SunLiTe can help you understand the questions, but cannot promise deletion of accurate information or a fixed correction date.
